Underlying Principles: The following items are principles that are expressed throughout the plan and goals. The principles reflect important aspects of development in Johnson County.
1. Continue to guarantee that property rights are important to the county.
2. Ensure that all goals have been looked at for cost and benefit.
3. Achievable and realistic goals and policies.
4. Clearly defined goals and policies.
5. Ensure that regulation is purposeful and efficient.
Transportation Goals

1. Identify and develop needed corridors.
2. Improve and require roads of quality, which are safe and adequate for their surrounding land use, taking into account future development opportunities/projections.
Actions to Maintain:
1. Maintain the focus and commitment to the current standards of corridor overlay zones throughout the county.
Value Goals:
1. Increase walkability and bikeability by expanding sidewalks, roadways, and commuter trails.
2. Support mass/public transit availability locally and coordinate regionally.

1. Implement "green" or environmentally sensitive development including builgin, infrastructure, and land use (design).
2. Implement mixed use development in appropriate area (define through policies).
3. Designate focus areas which should require a higher quality/design standards.
